Thermal Physics

By the end of the Thermal Physics chapter you should be able to:

  • Describe how energy is transferred between kinetic and potential energies when a substance is heated and when a substance changes state
  • Use the equation for Specific Heat Capacity
  • Use the equation for Latent Heat
  • Use the two equations above together to solve more complex problems
  • Recall and use the three gas laws (Boyle’s, Charle’s, and The Pressure Law)
  • Explain what molar mass is
  • Understand what an ideal gas is and the equations that govern it
    • Understand the difference in the mole and molecular variations of the equation
  • Understand the derviation of the kinetic theory model / equation
